¡Hello there!
My name is María José Segares and I am a chef. Different from my colleagues, I never felt that passion for cooking as everyone said they experienced. Many start cooking from an early age or learn from their moms, nanas or even because their families owned a restaurant. I never knew how to cook a fried egg until I turned 17. Rice? Well, even on a rice cooker it came out terribly. My thing was always dentistry, even so that when I was 7 years old, I asked Santa for a dentist kit.
When I graduated from high school, I went on an exchange to Montelimar, a very small French town which had no more than five houses and a small convenience store. I had planned to return to my country and start my dentist career but everything changed while I was over there, because I had to learn to cook for myself and for the family I was staying with. That's how I fell in love with smells, herbs, spices, cooking techniques, procedures and food itself. I remember calling my mom one day and the only thing I managed to say was “mom I want to be a cook”, that's when it all began.
Aside from cooking, I am really passionate about languages, different cultures, traveling and trying new dishes. That's why I started this blog, to be able to unite what I love most and be able to share a small portion of the big world that is food and everything that it encircles.
